About Us

Who We Are

Dteam Jiu Jitsu is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym in Tempe, Arizona, built around learning, creativity, and getting better together. We believe people learn best when training is playful, and we encourage students to experiment and develop their own game on the mats.

We train hard and challenge each other, but we are teammates, not competition.

The goal is to improve your own skills while helping the people around you improve too—and to create a place where everyone can enjoy Jiu Jitsu and keep coming back to train.

At the center of Dteam is head coach Wristlock Johnny.

Meet the Coach: Wristlock Johnny

Wristlock Johnny is the head coach and leader of Dteam. He began training Jiu Jitsu in late 2013 and has dedicated himself to the art ever since.

Over the years, Jiu Jitsu has become more than a hobby—it has played a major role in his life and personal growth. His time on the mats has shaped the way he coaches: practical, concept-driven, and always evolving.

Coaching Philosophy

Classes are practice.

Students are encouraged to experiment, be creative, and work on their weaknesses—not just their strengths. Train hard, have fun, and help your teammates improve along the way.

Teaching Approach

Concepts over memorization.

Johnny focuses on understanding the principles of Jiu Jitsu so students can develop a game that works for them. His approach is practical and MMA-influenced, with an emphasis on top control and back control.

Mission as a Coach

Train hard. Take care of your teammates. Train tomorrow.

Whatever brings you to the mats, the goal is to keep learning and improving together—so you and your teammates can come back and train tomorrow.
